thinking the same think about mc. vfs_canon() in vfs.c can be recursive;
if HOME and TERM are not set meaningfully, it recurses, calling a string
copy function using malloc, until the system gags. suspect the first
project is beating the man style documentatation into info format so i
can rtfm.
