I distinctly remember that the names of all info subfiles were identical 
modulo 8.3 and that I was left with only a single file when I should have 
had about 20 or so. I then went into the texinfo source of the tutorial 
and changed the default names of all info subfiles after which it worked. 
I can tell you the details in a day or so.

The names are not in the makefiles. They are in the texinfo sources which 
decide the names of the info subfiles.

No I used the makeinfo one not the emacs one.
