THAT'S IT.  The make did not modify the _emacs at all because it wanted to
see .emacs (dot)
and could not find it. So I had to put in the autoload lines myself, but I
did not put in the M-#
line. Thanks. I'll put in the M-#, but I am now wondering if the e version
might be better, after all,
it is the one YOU have.
