Read README.1ST again (you *did* read it, right?)  You don't compile
with cpp; that is the preprocessor.  Use `gpp' for C++.  Also make sure
all your environment variables are set correctly (PATH, DJGPP, and
LFN).  Failing that, compile with the `-v' option and post the
compilation command line, the output, the output of `SET', and your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
