Yep, that explains it.  That most DPMI hosts let null dereference get 
away is nothing new.

Somehow I convinced myself that you also get "Abort!" when you press 
Ctrl-C, but I now see that the problem with that case is different.

Does the DOS box crash when you press Ctrl-BREAK as well?
