Sure it's optional, but it's wrong.

Well, it's just bad advice. And I'm trying to keep him informed so he
can give as good advice as possible. He usually does.

There isn't a good ratio of swap/RAM. It depends on what kind of
things you use your memory for. And (with the risk of sounding like a
broken record) more memory means you need less swap no matter what you
use your memory for.

I have years of experience too. But not with DJGPP, but with Linux. 

_Maybe_ Eli is right regarding swap space for DJGPP, but I seriously
doubt that, as I have been using DJGPP for half a year now and so far,
my impression is as I have stated.

However for the case of running in Windows, I have no clue, so here
I can possibly be wrong. But DJGPP runs in DOZE (and in a DOZE-box in
Windows) and that's is what I'm talking about.
