ex16 is the MIDI test program. I can't see any reason why it should crash 
while the other programs work.

But you say it powers off your monitor? That might possibly be caused by 
switching into a mode that the monitor doesn't like, not that ex16 runs 
in anything other than text mode. What do you mean by 'system is down'?
