yes !
I have some experience in sound engines.
I would recommend to get a SOUND SYSTEM, not to code your own, because
there are manu kinds of sound cards.

Some sound cards like GUS can mix the sounds from its ONBOARD RAM.
You can get some speed, by supporting hardware mixing. But many people
have Sound Blaster only. The mixing is very easy if the SAMPLE RATE
is the same. If no, you have to use a MIXING RATE. You can simple add
the SAMPLES to mix them, but if they owerflow, you can hear bugs.
SO you have to decrease the VOLUME first by diving the SAMPLES.

I would recommend to code the MIXER in ASM.

What kind of sound cards does your engine supports already ?
