What do you use for the value of `dev'?  And why do you add 0x80?
AFAIK, 0x80 is only good for hard disks.

If this doesn't help, please post the shortest program, complete with
any parameters (like drive numbers) which you use to invoke it, so
people could try to reproduce the problem.
