There's something wrong with your setup, if that's what you see. gcc and
gxx should accept .cc as C++ programs; they do for me. Please post any
error messages you get when you use the .cc extension.
One problem might be that you say .CC (upper-case) instead of .cc.

Even if you find the way to change it, it will make you more trouble
(e.g., during debugging) than it solves. Don't do that.
