I keep answering my own questions - not sure if that's a good thing. So I discovered the fflush() function to write a partial line. Now I'm wondering why when I change the text color attribute with textcolor(YELLOW), the next printf statement still prints in standard off-white. Geoff schoenbg AT jhu DOT edu
