I think you should upgrade your compiler and binutils and see if it goes
away. It's quite possible this is a known bug (though not to me) that's been
fixed long ago. Current GCC and Binutils versions are 2.8.0 and 2.8.1
respectively. (You could use 2.7.2.1 if 2.8.0 is too new for you.)
