Does a trivial program that just calls `system' and then exits, corrupts 
the display as well?  If not, your code is probably the culprit.

Huh?  Shouldn't this be 256?  You might be allocating too few memory for 
the DOS interrupt stack.  I don't know whether this can be the cause for 
the problem you describe.
