That's not correct, at least not always. If you run in anything but
Win95's DOS box (this may include the W95 'DOS mode' as well...) you
don't necessarily have to do that. As long as the truncated names are
unique ('djtar' will tell you if they aren't), you can just run make
and all should work.

If you do run inside '95, OTOH, you can use DJGPP with LFN support
active, and you won't have to transform any filenames at all.

You can always just unpack and compile. If there are any problems,
you'll notice anyway...
