i don't use emacs, but did you try changing

+LFN=y

together with the lines in autoexec.bat?
also, until your problem is solved, you might want to change the
properties of the dos-box for emacs so that it does not close
automatically on exit. while you are at it, you should also set the
maximum dpmi memory (manually) to 65535. to do this, right click on the
executable, and select properties.
