  Try to copy ld.exe into ld (without extension).  Or make a "link"
(I think, you will need fileutils for this):

ln -s ld.exe newld.exe
mv newld.exe ld

  Just a guess.  I think, it tries to find `ld' (not `ld.exe')
by appending it to directories in your PATH and looking for resulting file.
