There's no section 10.6 in the FAQ.  Either that message was in error,
or you got the number incorrectly.  I cannot verify which one of these
is true because your pointer to the mail archives is incomplete (no
date, just time).

Yes, by the number.  Otherwise, it won't make sense to point people to
relevant FAQ fragments by telling them the section number.  This
appears to be the most effective way of giving a short but accurate
reference.

In the hypertext formats (HTML or Info), you can also go to one of the
two index nodes at the end and look for your topic.
