Look in the Emacs manual for the chapter on compilation.  The easiest
way is through searching the index:

	       C-h i RET     (enter Info)
	       2	     (choose the Emacs manual, the 2nd menu item)
	       i compilation RET  (search the index for "compilation")

Usually the first place is what you want.  If not, press "," (the
comma) to find other places.
