Subject: binutils 2.8.1 performance = slow

Forgive me if this has been noticed before, but I thought
I would share the fact that at least in my case,
using binutils 2.8.1 instead of 2.7 caused a remarkable
slowing of my program. I was reinstalling DJGPP and the
Allegro 3.0 beta, so I re-made my fractal program and found
that it now took 2.5 seconds to render a Mandelbrot set, whereas
before I reinstalled DJGPP my program only took 1.8 seconds.
The source code, makefile, and optimizations were completely
unchanged. At first, I thought it might be because I was tyring
out the latest Win95, or that perhaps something relevant to my program
had changed between the Nov16 WIP and the Allegro 3.0 beta code,
but I tried reinstalling DJGPP with the older binutils 2.7 first,
and now my program is back up to it's original speed.

Has anyone else experienced this with bnu281?
