No, `M-x man' should work.  It does for me.

Are you sure you downloaded em1934r?.zip from the latest binary
distribution as well?  If not, do so now, because the changes are in
lisp/man.elc.  I specifically told to download everything, since the way
files are packaged into different zips has changed as well.
