I finally decided to get rid of my EmTeX installation and install the
djgpp port. I downloaded the following zips:

tmfl72.zip -- the minimal TeX and Metafont library, required
webc70b.zip -- Web2c, TeX and related programs, optional
dvlj26b.zip -- DVI drivers for LaserJet printers, optional
dvga09b.zip -- DVI previewer for VGA adapters, optional

and unzipped them preserving the directory structures, and made the
recommended changes to my djgpp.env and info/dir files. (my djgpp
installation lives in d:\djgpp.) when i invoke latex using

latex filename

the missing fonts are not generated. the document does not use any fancy
fonts. i have been looking in the config and info files but the solution
escapes me. could someone offer some quick advice?

btw, i unzipped preserving long filenames, i tried under both DOS 7 and
win 95, and i have +LFN=y in my djgpp.env file.

thanks in advance for any help.
