Good questions tend to be answered in the DJGPP FAQ list ;-).  This
one is explained in section 8.1 (the short answer is that you *must*
use the short 8+3 aliases in this case).

No.  The apostrophe is a valid file name character, even in plain DOS.
I just tried renaming my DJGPP directory into a name with an
apostrophe and changed the DJGPP variable accordingly, and everything,
including Info, still worked for me.
