Subject: About DJGPP/Watcom/VC++ compiler performance

Hello,

        This ng seems to have the problem of getting repeated threads on
whether Watcom/Djgpp/VC++ is better. Many of the people who write the
messages seem to be getting their facts wrong. The main purpose of this ng
(I think) is to help people sort out their problems with switching over to
djgpp. I cannot comment as to which is the better compiler. Nor does "Quake
was written in djgpp" or "Id switched over to VC++" help anybody much. Its
is pretty obvious that there are many reasons apart from compiler
performance behind such decisions. These messages have begun to constitute a
sizable percentage of the mail. Many people here really wish to stick to
djgpp (again, compiler performance need not be the only reason). Those
wishing to continue such debates can use personal email and please leave
this ng alone. Alternatively, u cd browse thru the mail archives for similar
threads to find others who might be interested in such mail. If u do want to
post to this ng, y dont u run a few standard benchmarking programs and
report the results here (if u dont know the best switches to use, ask Eli or
somebody). Please run the code on a 486 or use PGCC for pentium performance.

Please let us have some constructive messaging.

Chirayu.
