I'm jumping into this thread rather late, but I do know that as far back
as 1995 Allegro was (and still is, AFAIK) a trademark of Allegro Sytems
Ltd. Allegro Systems makes Allegro, a real-time multitasking commercial
OS, mainly intended for data collection devices and  networking.
