It will. Andrei Ellman (ellman AT xs4all DOT nl) has pretty much finished
implementing this, which makes it a particularly easy feature for me to
add :-)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "smooth shading". Allegro already
supports gouraud shaded polys (linear interpolation of color between the
vertices), with the POLYTYPE_GCOL and POLYTYPE_GRGB drawing modes. If
you are talking about phong shading (interpolation of the surface
normal, and doing lighting calculations for each pixel), I'm not
planning to add that myself but anyone who fancies it is of course very
welcome to give it a go...
