One thing I neglected to write earlier.
If the term environment is not empty if it's
set to any value emacs comes back with the complaint that
it can't open the termcap data base. I did try a string that has never been
used for a terminal emulation and that's what happened.
So my questions are:
1) If a normal installation has happened should emacs 19.34
    even know about termcap?
2) If it's the load path that tells emacs where to look,
after installation I noticed no etc entries in it. Should an entry
like that have been on that path?
3) If not the load-path, where should emacs be told the location of
    termcap?

Microsoft asks me where I want to go today but UNIX gets me there.
