This is probably information that needs adding to the install section in emacs.i1.
Thanks for checking this out for me, I'll try it on a different system tomorrow 
and get it working before much longer.
I tried:
redir -ea make.log make <cr>
in the less-332 directory.
The path not found message came up 32 times but the programs
appeared to make.  The make.log file is over 1900 lines long so I'll understand
if there's objections to me posting it on these lists.
