Yep, nowdays Allegro means DJGPP and DJGPP means Allegro.

I used Allegro for plotting, gui and picture dumping in my diploma work -
HYCON. It's a package for building and exporting hypergraph images to
PiCTeX, PCX and TGA formats. I sent it to Shawn.

You are on the right way. I think that Allegro's gfx engine is very good
for graphics output, and all the other features (like MIDI and WAV playing
routines, FLIC player) may be used for Credits part of program.
The only library, wich can be compared with Allegro in it's capabilites is
SciTech Software MegaGraph Library 3.0. But it's commercial.
