One other possibility is that the compiler runs out of space for the
temporary files (used between different compiler passes).  If your
TMPDIR environment variable points to a RAM disk, change it to point
to you real disk and try compiling again.

If that doesn't help, add -v to the compiler switches and post
everything it prints.  (The output is very voluminous, so redirect it
to a file first.  The FAQ explains how.)
