Yea, the Kernighan & Ritchie book is pretty good.  It clearly (though
briefly) gets the point across.  You do need some programming background to
follow this one.

Another cruddy book to watch out for is "Applications Programming in ANSI
C" by  Johnsonbaugh & Kalin.  Things are presented in such a hap hazard
manner, it made the language more difficult to learn than it should have.
