In return, might I offer this... I had similar problems with crt0.o in the
past.  I was so annoyed at my sloppy program development habits that I
used Windows 95's Find to collect all of the .o files, and deleted them. :-)

Of course crt0 is an object file, as is another, so any attempt to link with
them fails if they are not there (weird, huh? :).

Since my sloppy program development habits are probably not unique, might it
be a good idea for future DJGPP releases to have a backup of these files
under a different extension?  Because often I do not keep the original archives
around; I need them so rarely.
