I used to use PFE (Programmers' File Editor); it's free, and not
specific to any language. It has a customisable editor, and options to
run DOS and Windows programs (e.g. the compiler). It uses a MDI
system, so that you can edit more than one file type at a time, and
invokes different editor options (all customisable) for different file
types. I'm not sure where I got it, though; try a web search. The only
reason I don't use it now is that I got fed up with jerky animations,
so I stopped using Win95.
