Most? If there are any others that don't work, that would be very
helpful in identifying the problem...

Nope :-) It would be useful if you could do some investigating of this.
Either try running it under a debugger like Rhide, or put a load of
printf statements between each line in main(), and redirect them into a
file (eg. "demo > log"), so you can see exactly how far it is getting
before something makes it quit. If you could locate exactly where it
goes wrong, it would be a big help to me (there isn't otherwise a lot I
can do, since it works fine on my machine).
