I think, the problem is in the MASM produced object files. If you have
any small object file(s), can you send them to me, so I can check, what
there is wrong (If it is possible, also together with the other files
to produce an executable).

It is not GCC which handles the COFF files, but the linker.
GCC "only" produces assembler output.
