You may be interested in a game I'm working on at the moment... it's a
real-time strategy war game (a la Dune 2, Warcraft, C&C, etc) with a few
major additions - like allowing the user to upgrade the AI. It will accept
C source code for various routines, using a messaging system similar to
the Windows system (which is similar to Allegro's GUI system), and your
code can overload the default response functions.
This is aimed at the player's units' AI at the moment, but will generalise
for the computer's AI fairly simply. I'm not an expert in AI, though (which
is partly why I decided to make it so customisable).
The game will be called Xenowars, and will be free with source code
available. There is some more information on:

(BTW I'd appreciate the help of any graphic designers - another area in
which I suck :) My sprites invariably look pretty pathetic.)
