I don't know how "buggy" iostreams is under GCC, but I do know that using
the library tends to "bloat" your code.  I haven't seen any real benifit
to using iostreams, although I use C++ quite a bit.  I would be open to
anyone who would be interested in convincing me otherwise  :-)
