Forget about DirectX, it has way too much overhead and it's a really confusing interface. I agree with wanting to use the acceleration, but just like john carmack did not build any hardware acceleration in Quake because the market is too fragmented. I beleive all we can do is hope that the new vesa standard will start to incorpaorate this for dos.
