First, libstdcxx.a (aka STL) is also free from copyright limitations.
And second, you should study the "Copying" section in the libgpp Info 
docs which describe exactly what are the terms of the GNU library public 
license.  The terms there apply to libgpp.a only.  

You should always try to link your C++ programs with -liostream -lstdcxx
first, and only if you get unresolved externals, add -lgpp.
