They are both identical in effect, but as I understand it, if you force
gcc to compile strict ANSI code (i.e. '--ansi' and '--pedantic'
switches), the inline keyword is not recognized.  In this case,
"__inline__" can be used as a substitute.  It's something like that
anyway; read the gcc docs for more information.
