I was hesitant on posting this message, but I figure the only way I'll get
any real feedback is to go ahead and post it. :)

Allegro is IMHO the absolute best graphics library available for DJGPP.
What I've done is created an add-on library that uses allegro to provide
some more specific-to-games functionality. I've titled this library ALEX
for ALlegro EXtras, but this of course may or may not change in the future.

Here is a brief run-down of the current functionality that ALEX provides:

- Special Effects: Image Crossfading.
- Display Lists.
- Very simple/incomplete gui interface which may disappear in the future.
- Scrollable Tiled Maps.

The real benefit of ALEX right now is the Tile Map routines. Still in
development, the following features are currently working:

- Loads WGT's WMP format map files along with the SPR format tilesets.
- Working Line of Sight routine with shading based on tile opacity.
- Smooth scrolling in all four (north south east west) directions.

The image crossfading is really quite cool too if I say so myself.

Okay, all that said, check out http://www.concentric.net/~sdeming to take a
peek. The entire source code is available for download, but you will need
Allegro v2.2 beta for it to run.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at sdeming AT concentric DOT net.

Thanks for listening. :)
