You probably didn't install GNU Binutils, which include as.exe (the 
assembler) and ld.exe (the linker).  GCC cannot compile/link without 
these utilities.  Please note that the file `readme.1st' available where 
you get DJGPP lists bnu27b.zip as one of the required packages.

If you do have as.exe in your bin subdirectory, please use the RHIDE 
bug-submit facility to create a bug report and post it here.
