Try looking at the following two files:

ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2tk/mkkbd3.zip
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2tk/libkb100.zip

One is a sample keyboard handler, and the other is a full
keyboard-handling library. Also, consider checking out the Allegro
graphics library, which includes keyboard handling and LOTS of other
useful stuff.

You should read the FAQ (v2/faq210b.zip) as well, particularly chapters
17 and 18.

Good luck!
