I don't understand how this can be true.  There's no such prompt anywhere 
inside cp, and it looks exactly like what XCOPY prints.  Can you find all 
the copies of XCOPY and CP on your machine and see if XCOPY or some other 
CP is actually called instead of the GNU one?

Desirable: maybe.  But MSDOS itself doesn't know about such pathnames, 
and the DJGPP library doesn't support them.  So they won't work.
