I also got this problem with a Win95 machine, using three different
browsers (Netscape 3, IE3, and my own httpcp).

As soon as I tried on NT4, the problem went away - with all three
browsers.  Bug in Win95's TCP/IP stack?

BTW, httpcp isn't really a browser ;-)  It just downloads a URL to a
file.
