I'm not sure if this helps, but here's some information I got from "Teach
Yourself Game Programming in 21 Days".

You should copyright it (of course). The address to register your
copyright with the government is:

	Publications Section
	Copyright Office
	Library of Congress
	Washington, DC 20559
	Phone: (202) 707-9100

You should request forms for copyrighting computer programs. The entire
process costs $20 to $30.

If you wish to sell your game to a large company (like Electronic Arts,
Interplay, etc...), you must call the company(s) and request a product
submission packet. Within the packet you'll find their terms as far as
submissions are concerned. After you send everything in, the company will
let you know whether they want your game or not. If not, that's it. If
they are interested, you should get a lawyer or legal advisor to ensure
that you are not negotiated right out of your game. The rule of thumb is
$150,000 up front plus royalties.

If you wish to distribute the game via shareware, the books recommends
these steps:

	1. Go to your local County Clerk's office and file a fictitiuos
business name for your new company. You can start a small company as a
sole proprietorship for about $50.
	2. Open a bank account at a nearby bank under your new business's
name.
	3. Lease a P.O. Box to receive the mail (you don't want the whole
world knowing your address!). This will cost about $25 every 6 months.
	4. Install another phone line at your house dedicated to your new
business. This will cost about $35 installation and $10 a month for local
service only. This will suffice since most calls will be incoming.
	5. Purchase some letterhead, envelopes, and business cards. This
will cost $80 to $100 for a couple hundred of each.

I'm not sure if this is what you were wanting, but I hope it helps.
