Okay, time to bite the leather.  I was right the first time; I've been
making (pardon the pun) a *****REALLY***** stupid mistake.  Foolish me
to try to run Make when it doesn't have access to other programs (such
as gcc.exe, ar.exe, etc...)  My apologies to anyone who's wasted time
with this thread (and especially to Ben Darnell, for making him think
he made a stupid mistake).
