First, the FAQ says that it is only consistent with DJGPP v2.0, not 
v2.01.  Second, the file that you should really see is v2/readme.1st, 
which *is* up-to-date.

Can't be.  The error message is printed because your as.exe is from v1.x, 
not v2.0.  Even if you would install as.exe from v2gnu/bnu252b.zip, the 
message will not appear.  Only as.exe from v1gnu/bnu252bn.zip (note the 
subtle differences in the directory and zip file names!) will cause the 
error to appear.  Chapter 4 of the FAQ mentions v2gnu/bnu252b.zip.

This lesson is correct.  The other one is: if there's a readme file 
available with a distribution, read it before unzipping the package.
