I was also thinking about that and the only conclusion I came to was to
use the com ports. I've just begun to investigate the topic but there is
a document on doing such a thing in the PCGPE available at 

x2ftp.oulu.fi/pub/msdos/programming/

and then you have to go into one other directory but I can't remember
the name. It's something like gpe or pcgpe.
