Unless I'm horribly mistaken, doesn't the DOS interrupt (21h) handle file
i/o?  I would recommend getting a copy of Ralph Browns Interrupt List (I
think thats the name), which is a big listing of all interrupts and their
functions.  Specifically, look at INT 21h,3D and 3E, open/close file with
handle.
