Did you change the DPMI memory setup of the DOS box property sheet as to 
allow your programs use 64MBytes of DPMI memory?  If not, you might get 
much less than 24MB (let alone 48MB) because of Windows 95 defaults.  See 
section 15.6 of the DJGPP FAQ list (v2/faq202b.zip from the same place 
you get DJGPP) for more details on this.
